Although I’m formally trained and experienced as a pattern maker, there are times when instinct takes over. I like to design freehand now and then, letting silhouette, proportion, and sculpture guide the process instead of strict geometry.
Garance was one of those moments. When I found a soft, brushed grey wool from Italy, I grabbed a piece of card and sketched the coat in five minutes. We cut and sewed a toile that same day – love at first sight.
Since then, we’ve made Garance in every kind of coating – from plush wool teddy and long-pile mohairs, and our Luella mohair 'fur'. This style looks fabulous at all lengths!
It’s always a joy watching clients try it on. There’s something delicious about engulfing yourself in this oversized silhouette – plus it gives quiet, movie-star vibes.
