About Us
We are a bespoke design company offering contemporary silhouettes and distinctive statement pieces, crafted in luxury fabrics to an exacting construction standard. The winter and summer collections are available year-round for clients who travel. Our styles provide the foundation for a personalised garment in fit, colour, and detail, with every piece made to measure and tailored to suit how the client chooses to wear it.
Founded by designer Fleur Clarke, Reine is built on deep expertise and a respect for traditional tailoring. Fleur is formally trained and has been making clothes for more than 40 years, specialising in complex pattern making for the first 12 years of her career, working with couture and high-end fashion houses before leaving the industry for a successful corporate chapter. Her long-standing love of quality fashion, creative expression, architecture, and art eventually led her back to the studio. Reine is the result.
With strong convictions about creating unique, well-made pieces, Fleur has always admired individuality and believes clothing should reflect the distinct character, proportions, and real lifestyle of the person wearing it - not a contrived fashion story or passing trend.
That belief shapes how we work. We don’t rely on offshore factories, mass production, or copying leading overseas brands, and we’re not interested in cutting corners to make a quick buck. We’re also careful about trends - if something doesn’t suit the client, we’ll be upfront and suggest alternatives that better reflect their lifestyle and figure. Integrity matters more to us than making a sale, and clients are never pressured to leave with something that doesn’t feel right.
Words like craftsmanship, enduring style, expertise, conscious practice, transparency, and quality tailoring are widely used in the fashion industry, often by high-volume retailers importing high-margin, cheaply made garments in large quantities. At Reine, these words are not marketing language - they describe the reality of how we operate.
We have also chosen a different path when it comes to marketing. Our brand has been built through reputation, relationships, and referrals - a deliberate choice that has resulted in a loyal client base who return time and time again, valuing the personal service and consistency that come with working directly with the designer. It also means one less major cost built into the price of the garment, allowing design decisions to be guided by craftsmanship rather than spreadsheets.
All garments are produced entirely in New Zealand using traditional tailoring methods and premium fabrics sourced through local agents. Each piece is designed, fitted, and cut by hand in the Herne Bay atelier, before being sewn by a dedicated Auckland-based team of skilled artisans.
Operating exclusively from our atelier allows us to keep overheads focused on the garment itself rather than the costs associated with traditional retail operations. This structure ensures we invest where it matters most - in design, quality fabrics, and skilled workmanship - so both the garment and the client remain the priority.
The process begins with selecting a base style from the sample collection. From there, we explore colours and fabrics, often visualising options directly into the design or creating lookbooks to ensure the garment works seamlessly with the client’s existing wardrobe. Measurements are taken and calico toiles are prepared for fittings, allowing us to refine the garment precisely to the client’s proportions. Once fabrics and details are confirmed, production proceeds promptly through streamlined operations.
