About Us

Reine is a made-to-measure design house offering contemporary silhouettes and distinctive statement pieces in luxury fabrics, made to an exacting construction standard. Our winter and summer collections are available year-round for clients who travel. Our styles provide the foundation for a personalised garment in fit, colour and detail, with every piece individually made and tailored to suit how the client chooses to wear it.

Founded by designer Fleur Clarke, Reine draws on more than 40 years of experience in garment making, patternmaking and traditional tailoring. Formally trained, Fleur spent the first 12 years of her career specialising in complex patternmaking and working with couture and high-end fashion houses before moving into the corporate world. A lifelong love of beautiful fabrics, thoughtful design and making clothes eventually brought her back to the studio. Reine is the result.

At the heart of Reine is a belief that clothing should reflect the individual - their proportions, personality and real life - rather than a contrived fashion story or passing trend. We are equally interested in wearability. Pieces should be worn often, travel well and work effortlessly with what a client already owns, becoming favourites rather than orphans in the wardrobe.

We don’t mass produce, manufacture offshore or design according to what larger international brands are doing. If we don’t believe a style will suit a client, we’ll say so and suggest something that will. Integrity, individuality and making something genuinely right for the person wearing it matter more than making a sale.

Reine has grown largely through reputation, relationships and referrals, with local and international clients returning for the personal service and consistency of working directly with the designer. Operating exclusively from our atelier allows us to invest in design, beautiful fabrics and skilled workmanship rather than the costs of traditional retail.

Every garment is designed, fitted and cut by hand in our Herne Bay atelier, then sewn by our Auckland-based team using traditional tailoring techniques and premium fabrics sourced through local agents.

The process begins with a style from our sample collection. Together we explore fabric, colour and design details, with technology used where helpful to visualise ideas. Measurements are taken in person or virtually, and calico toiles allow us to refine the fit and proportions before the final garment is made.
