How does Reine work?

Reine is a completely made-to-measure design house. Every garment is tailored to your proportions and preferences - at no extra charge.

Our online collection offers a glimpse of what we can create. Each style is a starting point, not a fixed product. Prefer something more dramatic? More classic? A different length, fabric, or detail? We adjust or design accordingly.

We’ve made just about everything - from sharply tailored suiting to sculptural evening wear - and welcome special requests. Whether you customise a collection style or commission a one-off piece, it’s made for you, and only you.

We work locally from our New Zealand atelier using traditional methods and exceptional materials. Our garments are produced on request, not held in stock - so there's no overproduction and no waste.

Local clients are welcome to visit our workroom; international clients are looked after through virtual consultations, which work seamlessly.

What is your design philosophy?

While some styles may appear familiar or even commercially ubiquitous, we’re not here to reinvent the wheel. We see classic silhouettes as essential building blocks for a modern wardrobe - versatile, enduring, and worth doing well.

Our focus is on proportion, fit, and fabric. When a garment is made to suit your shape, your style, and your way of wearing it, it becomes entirely individual.

We produce no stock - only samples. Every garment is made-to-measure and created on request, meaning no overproduction and no waste.

Our sample collection is shown in a refined palette that highlights structure and cut. Often colours distract from the design itself, so we avoid those in samples but source alternatives to suit the garment and the client.

Where is the Reine collection produced?

We take great pride in our collections, which are designed and manufactured entirely in New Zealand. From the initial pattern making to the final cut, each of our garments is handcrafted in our local workroom.

In our commitment to local production, we source our fabrics, trims, and components through suppliers and agents within New Zealand. This allows us to support the local industry and maintain control over the quality and sustainability of our materials.

With our entire team, including all contractors, being based in Auckland, we solidify our unwavering dedication to the local fashion community. Through seamless collaboration, we foster an environment that nurtures creativity, craftsmanship and real relationships.

Throughout our operation, from design to manufacturing and beyond, we uphold the values of quality, authenticity, and local collaboration. Choosing our brand not only means embracing exceptional craftsmanship but also supporting the rich heritage of New Zealand's fashion industry.

Can I find Reine in retail stockists?

We are a 'made to measure' design company that exclusively serves our customers through a direct-to-customer model, bypassing the traditional wholesale route to retailers.

We’ve chosen to sell our collection exclusively from our atelier workroom, bypassing the overheads of retail stores. This allows us to offer exceptional garments at fair prices, free from inflated margins.

With years of expertise in garment design and fit, we’re proud to prioritise quality, craftsmanship, and our customers above all.

Can I try on the collection in person?

Our collection can be viewed in our Herne Bay Atelier.

To immerse yourself in our collection or discuss personalised garments, we kindly request that you schedule an appointment with our Studio Manager, by contacting us at hello@reine.nz.  We would love to see you!

In addition, we extend our custom-tailored services through virtual consultations, allowing you to enjoy the same exceptional experience from the comfort of your own space. In most cases, we provide the convenience of sending sample garments for you to try on and ensure the perfect fit.

How does 'Made to Measure' work?

Every Reine garment is made-to-measure — tailored to your proportions, preferences, and how you want to wear it. This service is included at no extra charge.

For clients outside Auckland, it begins with a conversation. Get in touch at hello@reine.nz and we’ll arrange a time to discuss your preferred style, fit, and fabric. From there, we guide you through taking your measurements via video call (this has worked well to date). We’ll then create a toile (a fitting garment in calico) and send it to you for fitting.

Once you receive the toile, we’ll meet again to check proportions, adjust as needed, and ensure you’re happy before we begin the final piece. In some cases, we may be able to courier you a sample in your approximate size for reference — a 25% deposit is required before sending garments out (see policy below).

If you're based in Auckland, you're welcome to visit our atelier in person.

Most garments are delivered within 1–2 weeks of final confirmation. We aim to keep the process seamless, transparent, and enjoyable — without compromising on quality or fit.

What to expect at a fitting?

Firstly, expect to be treated with respect. You’ll be meeting directly with our designer – there’s no judgement, condescension, or unsolicited opinions. We’re not here to critique your body, taste, or lifestyle. This is a safe space, and your privacy is always respected. Nothing you say or do is ever gossiped about.

We work from a sweet little workroom rather than a lavish retail showroom – by design. It’s how we keep our costs low and offer bespoke expertise without the inflated margins. We also have three dedicated car parks right at the door for your convenience.

Before your fitting, we’ll usually have a clear idea of the styles you’d like to try. Garment samples will be ready, along with fabric swatches if you’ve requested something specific.

One client shared: “I was really nervous coming in… I’ve had bad experiences before with condescending, nasty people who made me feel terrible about myself. But here, I felt completely comfortable – such a relief.”

Another said: “I’m so angry with myself for being talked into buying ill-fitting clothes off the rack that I’ve hardly worn. I’ve wasted a fortune.”

We hear these comments every week – and we’re here to offer a different experience. Thoughtful, respectful, and entirely focused on getting it right for you.

What is your sample shipping policy?

A 25% deposit is taken before shipping a sample/s to the customer for fitting and virtual fitting purposes.   If a New Zealand based customer does not wish to proceed with the purchase, the deposit will be refunded in full.  If an overseas 'out of New Zealand' customer does not wish to proceed with the purchase then the deposit will be reimbursed minus the courier cost.

The sample garment is the property of Reine while with the customer.  If the garment is damaged, worn, or lost while in the customers possession, then the deposit will be forfeited and in some cases an extra charge will be incurred to cover the cost of the garment.

We ask that you handle our carefully crafted garments with care and respect. Avoid exposing them to animals, cooking odours, or any elements that may compromise their quality.

A dry-cleaning fee will be charged if garments are not returned to us in the same condition they left our studio.

We kindly request that you coordinate courier delivery times to ensure you are present to receive the samples.

What is your lending to stylists and industry policy?

Since our launch in July 2022, we’ve been proud to see Reine garments featured in editorials and at events. We’ve been generous with our time supporting local creatives, and have welcomed opportunities to lend pieces to industry colleagues whose work aligns with ours.

It’s important to note that Reine is not a large-scale operation - We are a thoughtful, independent atelier, focused on creating beautiful made-to-measure garments. Each garment takes an immense amount of time, care, and hands-on attention to create. Unfortunately, lending our sample pieces has often led to blurred boundaries, unprofessional outcomes, and financial loss for us.

As a result, we now lend garments more selectively and only to projects that reflect the quality, professionalism, and values of our brand. We hope you understand - this is not meant to cause offence, but about protecting the integrity of our work.

Our Terms

  • Garments remain the property of Reine while on loan. If items are lost or damaged, the borrower will be charged the full replacement cost.
  • We ask that all garments are handled with care and respect - please keep them away from sharp objects, animals, strong odours, or environments that may compromise their condition.
  • If a garment is soiled, please contact us before arranging dry-cleaning to ensure the correct method is used.
  • A dry-cleaning fee will apply if garments are returned in less-than-original condition.
  • We generally do not lend garments for test shoots or speculative creative work without a confirmed outcome, but we may consider exceptions where the concept and team align closely with our brand.

If you’re interested in borrowing garments for an upcoming project, please provide a clear brief, confirmed team, and usage plan for consideration. We appreciate being treated with the same respect and professionalism we extend in return.

Where are the shoes and separates in your photo shoots from?

We style our shoots using our designer’s personal singlets, jeans, bags and shoe collection (or borrowed from others afflicted with the same shoe addiction). Coordinating Reine shirts, shorts, skirts, and dresses are all made to order.

Are the garments shown on your website real pieces I can order?

Yes, every design shown on our website and Instagram is a real Reine garment, constructed in our Auckland workroom as part of our made-to-measure collection.

To help clients visualise proportions, fabric, colour, and styling options, we use a mix of real photography, AI visualisation, and Photoshop editing (much like any editorial or campaign) — without creating unnecessary waste through excessive garment sampling or overproduction.

Our clients vary widely in age, shape, and taste, so a one-size-fits-all representation simply doesn’t reflect how our garments are worn, or who wears them.

We can assure you that our garments look just as beautiful, if not better, in real life as they do online. All pieces can be viewed in person at our showroom or virtually via video consultation.

Can I collect my order?

Yes, collection is available for Auckland based customers from our Herne Bay atelier.   Please add that you would like this option in the check out notes or email us at hello@reine.nz

Do put a bit of time in your schedule as we love getting to know our customers, so expect a big chat.

Can I return my customised or 'Made to Measure' item for a refund?

'Made to order' 'Bespoke' and 'Customised" orders are non-refundable.

When purchasing a customised item you are entering into a non-refundable purchase agreement with REINE.  As we are manufacturing a product at your request, in a particular style/size cut to your fit, you will be asked to agree at the fitting stage to proceed with the order.  We are unable to accept cancellations or returns on bespoke items once the garment is cut in the desired fabric.

In the rare event of an issue with the garment, we always act in good faith to address the concern.

Do you ship internationally?

We ship internationally and offer the same customised service by way of video call and in some cases, by sending the sample garments to try on for size.

Contact us for an international shipping quote.  Please note that shipping costs paid to REINE do not include duties and taxes, which are invoiced separately at the time of delivery to your country. If you would like a duties and taxes estimate before placing your order, please contact your local customs authority.

How long does shipping take?

New Zealand ground shipping transit time is 1-3 business days from our workroom in Auckland.  1-3 business days to Australia.  3-5 business days Rest of World.
